Rain can kill the camping trip

September 19th, 2009 by admin

I heard someone coughing and vomiting in the other tent. It was the older twin. So he and Dad had to come in the big tent and shared one sleeping bag and beach towels to sleep on. Then it started to rain. It continued to rain the rest of the night. Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, all night long. Then the it started to leak in the tent above my head, at the bottom of my sleeping bag, from the ceiling.
Info.

About 7 a.m. my husband got up and decided to pack it up and go home. We had no dry place to go. We had no canopy or tarp over the picnic table, no shelter from the rain. Everyone else at the campground seemed to be asleep, snug and dry in their tents. (they came prepared)

We took the Coleman tent back and exchanged for a smaller more waterproof one. After everything dries apply seam sealer and also spray the tent with silicone spray to help it repel water. Eureaka! Seam sealer! We should have done that the first time. We should have been better prepared for rain. Sometimes you learn the hard way!

Camping supply write up

My camp counselor days are very over. That was a long time ago. But I remember how people would play pranks on me. One time, the other counselors dumped water on my head.

I knew I needed to show them that I could fight back and do the same back to them. The gal that did this to me found her 1976 Ford station wagon sitting on its rims alone. lol. Now how I pulled that off is another story in and of itself.

I’ve been a summer camp counselor for over 25 years at various camps. One of the activities I covertly participate in is pranks played upon the other camp counselors.

As a counselor with a degree of seniority, I have keys to everything and know the camp well. One of the first pranks I play on new counselors is enter their cabins and cut the ends out of their socks. At camp, we never wear socks with our sneakers because of various water activities. Ah the look on a new counselor’s face when her socks pull up to her knee caps. lol.

I know that I would spend the year in school thinking about how I could prank other people over the summer. It was a great past time and would keep me exited about going back to camp each summer.

Joys of Camping World

May 23rd, 2009 by admin

The camping world holds limitless fun. Enjoying the benefits of the great outdoors is the main attraction of the camping world. Hiking, swimming, and a little bit of rest and relaxation are just a few of the many possibilities to partake in. There are many joys to be had in the camping world. However, although it is good to be prepared for whatever activities you would like to do, it is even more important to be ready to deal with those you would rather avoid.

A tent or other shelter is the main thing that you will need for camping. A tent or other shelter will help protect you against the elements. You never know if weather conditions will be favorable or very stormy in the camping world, and there is quite a range! In cases of extreme heat, a strategically placed tent could shield you from the sun. For further protection, having a sturdy rain fly covering the roof of your tent can keep you dry. It is also a good idea to spread a tarp beneath the tent to keep water from seeping in. A great alternative for shelter can be a pop up camper if your budget allows for it. A number of shelter options are available for the camping world.

Feeling the cool breeze blow through your tent, sleeping under the stars can be two of the best parts of camping. To make sleeping even more comfortable, it is wise to invest in sleeping bags and padding. Depending on your needs, there are many styles of sleeping bags. You can get a conventional sleeping bag that zips up around your chest. There are also mummy style sleeping bags which can zip all the way up and around your head! You can get a sleeping bag that suits your needs as far as temperature range, material and color criteria. Padding or mats for underneath your sleeping bag are also good to have. Depending on your comfort needs, padding is available from blow up mattresses to foam egg crates. With the right gear, you will be comfortable and warm at night.

There are a wide array of possibilities for outdoor activities, as well. Hiking is a sport that many enjoy in the camping world. There are many hiking trails to explore, and they vary depending in terrain and distance. It is best to be prepared, even on the easiest of trails. One item you should bring is bottled water. Keeping hydrated is of the utmost importance while engaging in any exercise, hiking included. Hiking boots are another item that make the trek easier. Hiking boots can be had for any needs and budget, depending on the materials and colors desired. It is a wise choice to bring some sort of compass or global positioning system device with you on a hike, in case you get lost. You may even want to bring a light snack such as trail mix for longer treks. Hiking should be comfortable and safe with these provisions.

Dry matches, cooking gear and firewood are also important items to have while camping. Years of camping can be enjoyed with the right durable gear. Endless wonderful memories of camping can be yours if you follow these tips!

what you should look for in a camping tent

April 21st, 2009 by admin

The camping tent is the most important among camping equipment. The most important feature of a good camping tent is durability. Camping tents made by reputed companies come with 5 year guarantees and are capable of withstanding strong winds and torrential rains. They vary in price depending on the quality and measurements of the tent. A dome tent is the lightest and easiest among camping tents to put up. Camping cots

Dome tents come in solo and family sizes. The heavier frame tents which were conventionally used for camping are bulky and difficult to erect. Some campers prefer renting camping tents because they are used short term and renting is easy on the budget. Campsites offer a package with camping tents and camping equipment forming a part of the package giving a no stress alternative for the camper A good camping tent is the basis of successful and comfortable camping.

Camping rv From Me

April 20th, 2009 by admin

I always used to put a big emphasis on camping gear. But I’ve found that, the more I go camping the less concerned I am about bringing the specific camping gear I used to think was so important. In fact, as I’ve gotten older, my mind has moved away from the gear and more on the experience itself. I guess this is sort of a zen statement. But, it is more and more just about getting away. The experience itself is what is important to me and I could care less about what I bring with me in the woods. You’re probably saying, no kidding. There are tons of people every time I go shopping who seem to be more concerned about the camping gear they bring with them then the experience of camping. Just get out there. Enjoy it.
